The dark blue background has a very warm and strong feel to it as well, which has been brought out with the sharpness of the yellow. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs you can see the side of this mandala has also been painted so it looks great from every angle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo what's the story? Believe it or not this amazing dot Mandala has been made with leftover paint. Every time I pour paint out for dotting there would be some leftover. I felt bad to pour it down the drain and I thought why not start a canvas only with leftover colours? I had a small amount of paint each time but I knew it was enough for a lot of little dots. As it was a surprise for Christmas I could not ask her personally for what she would like. So the information I got from the lady who ordered the painting were the following: \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShe asked me to make a 40x40 cm painting. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer mother in law loved butterflies and her favourite colour was yellow. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer home had warm colours in it including orange, brown and yellow. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI kept in contact with the lady throughout the painting process. I've sent her pictures of the base colour, she was very happy with the warmth of the orange. I've sent her pictures of the drawn canvas, she liked the design. I've asked her if there were any specific colours she wanted me to use. She said besides yellow she didn't mind- so I picked out the colours. I wanted the painting to 'pop out' of the wall so I've used bronze around the Mandala. When I was halfway through I've sent her a picture just to make sure she was satisfied with my work. She was happy so I continued dotting. Because I wanted to add something extra to the painting I decided I'd make the outline of the butterflies glow. I've asked if it was ok and the lady was very happy about the idea. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI was very nervous at Christmas time whether her mother in law would like my dot mandala but I shouldn't have worried. She was very surprised she got such a unique and personalized present from her daughter in law and she was absolutely delighted with it. She wanted a round mandala without any silhouettes. Her favourite colour is turquoise so she asked me to use this colour. As I had different shades of blue but not turquoise I've ordered a couple of bottles to use it in this piece. She said she would like to hang it in their living room above their sofa. She said the sofa was dark red scattered with golden patterns so I included these colours as well. I also put a couple of circles of white dots in because I didn't want the mandala to be too dark. I kept in touch with her throughout the process and she told me her opinion at different stages. And straight away I started to paint a canvas. I wanted to use aaaall the colours of the world and paint them into one single dot Mandala which was not possible of course but I think I still managed to make it a very exciting colourful and vibrant picture.
